YOUR SENSE OF SMELL AND HOW IT WORKS

In over simplified terms, odors float in the air as molecules. When sniffed in, these molecules reach a dead end passage at the top of the nasal
cavity containing thousands of hair-like antennas called cilia that receive these molecules and trigger impulses to the brain identifying the smell. Scientists now believe different cilia accept only molecules of specific size and shape, or as the experts say, accept only molecules of specific “geometries.”
